1. What game system are you running (D&D, Call of Cthulu, Palladium, GURPS, etc.), and if applicable what edition (Original, Classic, Revised, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 10th, etc.)?
Pathfinder. For those unfamiliar with the system, it is effectively a modified 3.5. I am sure either myself or another player will be able to help you understand everything. Also there is a pretty good SRD here.
2. What 'type' or variant of game will it be (i.e. "Shadow Chasers" or "Agents of Psi" for d20 Modern)? What is the setting for the game (eg. historic period, published or homebrewed campaign setting, alternate reality, modern world, etc.)?
The setting will be one of my own creation. But as far as things you need to know for your backstory writing, you are from a pretty typical Fantasy universe. And I give more or less free-reign as to what you include in your stories.
3. How many Players are you looking for? Will you be taking alternates, and if so, how many?
4-6. Might take more, if I get a lot of interest.
4. What's the gaming medium (FancyMafia, chat, e-mail etc.)?
PbP here on he forums.
5. What is the characters' starting status (i.e. experience level)?
Everyone is level 2, and we will be using the medium experience progression from Pathfinder.
6. How much gold or other starting funds will the characters begin with?
You will begin with, or rather acquire shortly after the beginning of the game, gear worth the average starting gold for a member of your class at 1st level. This can be basic gear only (Weapons, armor, basic mundande gear, etc.) no potions or other magic related items.
7. Are there any particular character classes, professions, orders, etc. that you want... or do not want? What are your rules on 'prestige' and/or homebrewed classes?
I'm fine with just about any official Pathfinder classes. Anything 3rd party, run it by me first.
8. What races, subraces, species, etc. are allowed for your game? Will you allow homebrewed races or species? 'Prestige' races or species?
Check with me on anything that isn't a standard starting race.
9. By what method should Players generate their attributes/ability scores and Hit Points?
It will be max health for first level, roll for all the ones after that. If you roll below average, take the average. Rolling will be done on here once Dante figures out exactly how to enable that feature. Stats will be rolled as 4d6 and choose the best three.
10. Does your game use alignment? What are your restrictions, if so?
I'm fine with evil characters, but my one golden rule is that even as an evil character you have to be able to work with the party. In-fighting is fine, in reasonable amounts, but don't be the type that will literally stab another party member in the back for the fun of it.
11. Do you allow multi-classing, or have any particular rules in regards to it?
Multi-classing is just fine.
12. Will you be doing all of the die rolling during the course of the game? Will die rolls be altered, or left to the honor system? If players can make die rolls, which ones do they make, how should they make the rolls, and how should they report them?
Die rolls will be done in here for anything you guys roll for, anything you don't necessarily need to see the numerical amount for I will roll.
13. Are there any homebrewed or optional/variant rules that your Players should know about? If so, list and explain them, or provide relevant links to learn about these new rules.
What home rules I do use will be explained when the situations arise. One important one, though, is that for this game any character that gets powers from worshiping a deity (i.e. Clerics, Paladins, etc.) must worship and ideal, a value, something of that nature instead of a god.
14. Is a character background required? If so, how big? Are you looking for anything in particular (i.e. the backgrounds all ending up with the characters in the same city)?
Background is absolutely required. An expression I heard once for the perfect backstory length was "Backstories are like skirts. They should be short enough to keep your attention, but long enough to cover the important bits." That being said, I don't mind reading a couple pages of story if it's what you write. Another important note is that every character will get a customized bonus related to their story. It could range anywhere from a DM created new ability, to a feat, maybe a fancy item... it depends entirely on what you write!
!IMPORTANT! Your backstory MUST end with you in slavery for whatever reason you decide.
15. Does your game involve a lot of hack & slash, puzzle solving, roleplaying, or a combination of the above?
I'll try to mix it up a bit, but I'm mostly going to try everything out and see what you guys respond best to. Please note that I am horrible at puzzles.
16. Are your Players restricted to particular rulebooks and supplements, or will you be allowing access to non-standard material? What sources can Players use for their characters?
Anything too unusual, run it past me. But most official PF material will be fine.
A couple of notes not covered by the 16:
This game will be largely a sandbox adventure. Do just about anything you want. You want to open a tavern in a city? We'll make it happen. Want to try taking over a small country? I wish you luck. Taking on a god? Sounds like a fun time.
I would appreciate it if your character sheets were put onto a website like myth-weavers or onto a google doc that I have access to, as that will allow me to quickly and easily access them.
I'm sure there are more things I am forgetting, when I remember I will edit them in.
