The longest game I ever ran was Bleach Mafia on World in Conflict Heaven, a 17-player mafia which ran from October 2008 until about November 2009. The game became increasingly inactive, leading to me replacing 3/4 of the living players to get the game going again.

Rotaretilbo 13.. 13 months?! Wow. For a 17 player game as well. That takes dedication. Kudos man, kudos, I know I would have given up on it by then.

To be fair, about six or seven months of the game were completely dead. I wish World in Conflict Heaven was still up so I could drop a link.
Longest game I played in was Moon Mafia on Battle for Middle Earth 2 Heaven, which ran from May 2009 until July 2012. This particular game had a dead period of just under two years because the host failed to put up the second to last writeup, then lost the documents with all the game info in them. He finally found them some time later.

Typically, any game that lasted longer than two months at HG was afflicted with some level of mass inactivity. Bleach Mafia was hosted at a remote Heaven with no community to speak of, Moon Mafia was caught in the mass migration from Heavens to HGMM, and Half-Life Mafia was hosted when HGMM was nothing more than a dried husk.

And the hosts never did anything about it? In terms of just canceling the game or modkilling?

The games in question were frequently the last games on those communities. Moon Mafia was the last game hosted on Battle for Middle Earth 2 Heaven, to be sure, and Bleach Mafia marked a year of World in Conflict Heaven being completely dead (ironically, my reviving that game also revived the community, which got a handful more mafia games in before the migration to HGMM killed all activity on the Heavens). Half-Life Mafia marked the end of the official calendar at HGMM; only three games have run since them, and they've all been small, poorly balanced, and relatively inactive (HGMM is taking much longer to die because, unlike with many of the Heavens, it is the last bastion of mafia on HG; there is nowhere else to go once it dies).

Sounds like a really complicated Mafia community... Why were people moving so often?

There was a group of forummers who played at multiple communities. However, there weren't enough of us to maintain an otherwise abandoned community. World in Conflict's own community died out, so many of us stopped playing mafia there. When HeavenGames Main Mafia opened, pretty much everyone migrated there. It had such a big community that it could run six games at once, so there wasn't an incentive to play elsewhere, and all activity elsewhere died out.
